Offering discounts is a great way to reward your loyal clients or to encourage the first purchase of new customers. Unlike sales, which are offered to all your clients, discounts offered to your clients give them the feeling of being privileged and benefiting from special advantages. This is a very good lever to nudge a lead and turn them into a client. It can be the trigger that will make your visitors decide to make a purchase.
We’re talking about financial discounts, which you can offer as a fixed amount, or as a percentage of your clients' order.
Discounts to increase traffic to your shop
This is one of the most common objectives of a discount campaign.
Consumers are very often looking for a good deal. Without necessarily needing a particular product, they may decide to make a purchase after receiving a coupon code.
The idea here is to communicate massively around the coupon code you want to launch:
- on your social media
- by email to your clients/leads
- through partnerships / influencers.
Another advantage of this type of communication is that it will also allow you to increase your community. Community with which you can communicate again during your next campaigns.
Trigger a purchase
This is when the lead believes they're getting a good deal generally results in an impulse purchase. Indeed, this purchase will not respond, in this case, to a need of the client. The act of buying will be the consequence of a relatively quick search on your site in order to take advantage of the good deal identified. These coupons can be of two types and generate different purchases:
- A percentage discount
- A discount in a fixed amount

For high priced products, they will require percentage discounts. On the other hand, the discounts granted for selling cheaper products will be, for the consumer, more advantageous if they are communicated in a fixed amount

Be careful though: coupons should not be used all year long. This would have a direct impact on their credibility but also because during this period margins are reduced.
